APS online subscribers are recognized and authorized by their Internet Protocol (IP) address. IP addresses and/or IP ranges for a licensee and its authorized users are specified in the institution’s signed license agreement. Librarians with an APS librarian portal account may also submit IP changes and corrections directly to APS.
The Licensee may access the subscribed Licensed Materials through IP addresses or IP ranges. Each computer accessing the Internet is assigned an IP address, commonly represented as four number groups separated by dots, e.g. 126.96.36.199. All computers on a local area network or subnet may have the first two or three number groups in common. Access to the subscribed Licensed Materials are authenticated and authorized through the IP addresses or IP ranges you provide.
To provide the most accurate usage statistics, APS does not allow IP sharing across multiple institutions or accounts. If an IP is submitted in conflict with a pre-existing IP address in the APS system, both institutions will be notified to resolve the conflict. Please consult your network administrator for accurate IP addresses/ranges.
You may submit up to ten IP addresses/or ranges for APS online access. APS will only accept IP ranges owned by or are for the sole use of the subscriber. All IP addresses are subject to review and approval by the APS technical staff. APS reserves the right to reject any IP addresses failing to fulfill these criteria.
Systematic or programmatic downloading via granted IP access is prohibited. If you require any assistance or if you use proxy servers, please contact the APS Technical Help Desk at email@example.com.
